MY WORK

CULTURE CLINICS:
A 'locally sited'  socially engaged aesthetic strategy to interact with a broad and diverse audience in Deal and Walmer. To discuss and record issues directly relevant to their lives.  It is an experiment to test out mecanics of debate and ways to interact with Residents of Deal and Walmer and collect cultural perspectives. The outcome, will be to discover what the collective voice of Deals fishing history is and how they relate to the beach, the endangered knowledge of the sea, what makes Deal and Walmers special and how do we envisage the beach being used in the future and how can we preserve the knowledge of the sea before it becomes extinct.

SOS

It raises question about how we preserve our history through social practice. How we preserve technical skills of the sea.

It sees to a need to reactivate our past knowledge and experience and memory of the sea. What do we think is worth remembering? curing? storing? re- introducing?

The 'Culture clinic' will become a store of knowledge of the sea...
It is a system to enable residents to contribute to this growing on going open ended, transient  historical memory bank.

Through the use of a series of Jars, the audience/volunteers will add their memories to labelled jars of their choice. These contributions will act as research evidence to how Underground Pearl can enhance and play a part in moving the Culture of Deal and Walmer forward in a positive way. and to facilitate a collective desired change.
A social vaccine against lost histories.

The Audience:
Share your stories at.....
Add your story, share your knowledge, contribute to this open ended historical artwork.

What would it be like if we lost all knowledge of the sea, how can it be reactivated in new and exciting ways?
Can this contribute to cultural life in Deal and Walmer?  is it a social initiative?
